There’s nothing quite like a warm, melt-in-your-mouth chocolate chip cookie. And if you’re like us, a highlight of visiting the State Fair each year is getting a big bucket full of them (some to eat, some to take home for later).

If you need to feed your cookie cravings this summer, we’ve got just the recipe. Gram’s famous chocolate chip cookies are legendary. There are no secret, fancy ingredients. In fact, they’re made from items you may already have in your kitchen. But somehow everything comes together for the gooiest, chewiest cookie your taste buds have ever known (trust us!).

• 3 ½ cups all-purpose flour
• 1 ½ teaspoons baking soda
• ½ teaspoon salt
• 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
• ¾ cup brown sugar
• 3 eggs
• 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
• ¾ cup shortening
• 1 stick softened butter
• 1 – 12oz bag semi-sweet chocolate chips
• Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Line cookie sheets with parchment paper + set aside.
• In a large mixing bowl, combine shortening, butter, sugar, brown sugar + vanilla. Beat until light and fluffy. Add eggs and beat until smooth.
• Sift flour, baking soda + salt in another large bowl. Add flour mixture gradually to butter mixture and beat well.
• Stir in chocolate chips by hand.
• Drop tablespoons of cookie dough about 2 inches apart onto cookie sheets.
• Back in oven for 5-8 minutes
• Don’t be alarmed if the cookies still look gooey after 8 minutes. They’ll harden on the outside but be soft + chewy inside
• If you want your cookies to be loaded with chocolate, switch up your chocolate chips for chocolate chunks. And don’t be stingy with the chocolate!
• Best served warm with a glass of milk!
Gram is a real person! In fact, she’s Grandma Marilyn, baker extraordinaire who has a recipe box filled with gems like this. She’s also the mother of Love From Minnesota’s owner + an all-around great gal.
